Dunlop History

The name Dunlop is synonymous with innovation and enterprise, going all the way back to 1888 and the invention of the pneumatic rubber tyre by John Boyd Dunlop.

In Australia, we began manufacturing underlays in 1964.  The manufacture of rebonded polyurethane carpet cushion for residential applications commenced in 1969.

In the late 80’s, we introduced and developed the “Double Bond System” of commercial carpet installations utilising the SBR Latex cushion.  These products were discontinued in 1999 and replaced with higher performing and more environmentally friendly rebonded polyurethane cushions.

Throughout the 90’s we pioneered the introduction and development of the “Fastack System”; carpet cushion with pre-applied adhesive on the bottom surface.  This innovation was extended in 2004 with the launch of Dualtac; cushion with adhesive pre-applied to both surfaces.

Continuing our commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing, we introduced the Dunlop Design Flex range of rubber flooring, products that do not require solvent-based adhesives.  This launch was complimented by the release of a full range of new generation water based adhesives and primers.

Today, as part of Pacific Brands Limited, the company is Australia’s largest manufacturer of rebonded polyurethane carpet cushioning, with manufacturing operations in Victoria and New South Wales and a warehousing network providing fast, efficient distribution throughout Australia.

Pacific Brands is a marketer and leading manager of Everyday Essential Brands in Australia and New Zealand, marketing some of the most recognised brands including Berlei, Bonds, Clarks (Children's), Dunlop, Everlast, Grosby, Holeproof, Hush Puppies, King Gee, Mooks, Mossimo, Sheridan, Slazenger, Sleepmaker, Tontine and Yakka.
